Vehicles Compatibility

Many vehicles today are built specifically as Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs). These vehicles are designed to use gasoline, E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline), or any in-between blend of those fuels. However, many customers can use ethanol/gasoline blends in their vehicles, even if they don't own a Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV). Please contact us to find out which option is right for you.

Flex-Fuel Vehicle: Epiphergy can help you determine if your current vehicle is a Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV). FFVs are built at the factory to use gasoline, E85, or any blend of the two. Click here to learn if your vehicle is already a Flex Fuel Vehicle. (Note: you may need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which is usually on the inside of the driver door, or on your title document)

FuelFlex Vehicle Updgrades: Epiphergy can upgrade almost any fuel injected gasoline vehicle to be flex-fuel capable. Customers who plan to use higher blend levels of ethanol (more than 50%) will benefit from an upgrade that helps their vehicle take advantage of ethanol's unique properties. We can also help you assess any concerns regarding fuel system compatibility. Epiphergy sells, installs, and provides customer support for Fuel Flex Platinum™ upgrade kits.

Unconverted Non-FFVs: Many customers can use ethanol at lower blend levels in vehicles that have not been converted. In fact, research by the University of North Dakota (available here as PDF) showed that "there is a strong indication that non-flex-fuel vehicles operated on optimal ethanol blend levels, which are higher than the standard E10 blend (such as E20, E50, etc), can obtain better fuel mileage than predicted by fuel energy content", and that "exhaust emission values were at or below EPA Tier 2 levels for all vehicles tested, with one exception". However, the EPA and auto manufacturers generally frown on using more than 10% ethanol in non-FFVs.
